What Love Can Be

The stages of our maturation of love are wonderful to think about.  From the self-conscious love that seduces teenagers into provocative fantasies, to the explosive love of a mother nursing her infant, love is generous enough to allow itself to evolve through us.  Love will wear its many faces, surprising us when it turns around.

I would like to explore an even higher altitude of love that is not generated by the needs of self, nor by the nurturing of self and others, but through the experiential awareness of love as an entity exterior to us that penetrates us.

When one has transcended fundamental stages of love, and are not eclipsed by these stages any longer, but has emerged from them as if after being submerged by the sea and breaking through to the surface to see new landscapes,  one begins to experience love as the breath of life.   Love is not an entitled sense of proprietorship of that which is loved, nor is it a personal experience or even interpersonal. There comes a point where love leaves the incubative stages of the heart.  The map has changed the location so to speak.  Like when learning to read, a new world unrolls before us like an extensive scroll.  Ideas and concepts greet us at our feet and ask if they can come in to play.  New cognitions of reality reshape our interior by integrating streams of information from the symbols and images produced by the exterior world.  Life expands in one great inhale.  So, too, the love that was once recognized as within self, begins to extend beyond ourselves, beyond our heart where we realize the source was not of our heart at all, but from some place greater than we could ever imagine because we are not the ones imagining it, It is imagining us.  We are the imagined.

You no longer have love, it has you.  You embody love that is not your own, but a personalized version of love's ever-presence.  Love visits you and is not generated by your heart any longer but by your soul.  When this occurs, you are the embodiment of love and not the generator of love.  Thus, your love is an eternal stream for all to sip from.

How do you get to this place?  Fearlessly allow love to imagine you.  You'll be surprised by its creativity.
